2nd “New political challenges for Germany, Turkey and the EU” joint Conference

On behalf of the University of Cologne and Turkish German University, we are pleased to invite you to participate in the 2nd Joint Conference of “New political challenges for Germany Turkey and EU” in Istanbul, Turkey, which will gather eminent scholars and speakers who are engaged in EU studies and Germany –Turkey relations. The reception will take place on 28th of May with a limited number of guests in the Historical Summer Residence of the German Ambassador to Turkey, Tarabya/Istanbul and continue on 29th of May in Turkish German University. The conference will be jointly organized by the University of Cologne and Turkish German University.
Due to their long-standing history, Germany and Turkey are not only connected by economic and political but also societal and cultural ties to this day. Also EU has f great influence for the development of their relations. The 2nd Joint Conference of ‘New Political Challenges for Germany, Turkey and the EU(rope)’ will focus on this triangle of actors by assessing current political dynamics being of special importance for their long-term evolution.
The Conference will gather academicians, members of European and Turkish Parliaments, journalists, diplomats, representatives of the media, junior researchers and Students from the University of Cologne and the Turkish-German University Istanbul to explore and discuss current political dynamics.
The themes to be discussed at the panel meetings during the conference include:
- German-Turkey-EU Relations: Foreign Policy Perspectives on challenges of World Politics(Middle East, Ukraine- Russia)
- Turkey on its way to 2023: The upcoming Parliamentary Elections and Beyond (Social, Political and Economic Transformation)
- Politics and Society in Turkish- German – EU Relations: Identity and Beyond
