Business Conference “2nd Annual Business Administration Conference (ABAC) on Digital Challenges and Strategies in a Post-Pandemic World”

The conference titled “2nd Annual Business Administration Conference on Digital Challenges and Strategies in a Post-Pandemic World”, organized by the Turkish-German University (TGU) Department of Business Administration, together with Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences, under the sponsorship of Siemens Turkey and DAAD, was held on 18-19 November 2021.

The first day of the conference was held at Siemens Kartal Campus with both face-to-face and online presentations. The opening session, which started with the welcome speeches of Rector of TGU, Prof. Dr. Halil Akkanat, Dean of Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences of TGU, Prof. Dr. Ela Sibel Bayrak Meydanoğlu and Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration, Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences, Prof. Dr. Rıza Öztürk, ended with the enlightening presentation of Hüseyin Gelis, Chairman and CEO of Siemens Turkey, on digital transformation in business life after the pandemic.

Effects of the Pandemic on Work, Family and Law

The first session opened with the presentation of Abdulmuttalip Erduran from Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences, titled “Legal Challenges Caused by the Effects of Pandemic”. The session continued with TGU Faculty Member Dr. Sevgin Batuk Ünlü's presentation on the factors affecting work-family conflicts of employees in the digital world. Then, TGU Faculty Member Dr. Hüseyin Hayri Nuroğlu drew attention to the problems experienced in the governance of business networks after the pandemic in his presentation.

Digital Transformation and New Technologies

In the first presentation of the second session, Dr. Ahmet Tuğrul Tuğer from Piri Reis University discussed the use of artificial intelligence in the post-pandemic service sector. While Dr. Ulrich Tamm from Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences highlighted the importance of the governance of blockchain systems in his presentation, the session concluded with a presentation by Dr. Sven Packmohr from Malmö University on research-based learning and barriers to digital transformation during the pandemic. In the third session of the first day, Assoc. Prof. Dr. İlke Kocamaz from Marmara University made a presentation on digital marketing trends during the pandemic. 

Participations from the Industry

In addition to academic studies, the conference also included presentations by the leading names of the industry. Sinem Cantürk, Head of Information Systems Risk Management Department at KPMG Turkey and Fintech Sector Leader, made her presentation titled “Global Fintech Trends” online. Umut Pehlivan, Siemens Supply Chain Management Director, also made a presentation on digitalization trends in supply chain management.

The first day of the conference ended with the “Smart Cities” panel organized by Siemens Turkey. While the moderator of the panel was Gülşah Öztürk, Vertical Sales Director from Siemens Turkey, Vice President of Siemens Turkey, Hakan Özdemir, General Manager of UGETAM A.Ş. , Assoc. Prof. Dr. İbrahim Edin and General Secretary of International Investors Association, Serkan Valandova, shared their experiences and predictions about smart cities as panelists.

Second Day with Online Presentations

On November 19, the second day of the conference, the presentations were made online. In the first session with participants from different countries, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Taşkın Dirsehan from Marmara University made a presentation on "Blockchain Technology in Supply Chain Management". Then, Prof. Dr. Hande Türker from Boğaziçi University made a presentation on “Creating Experience through Sensory Technologies in the Digital Commerce Environment”. The last presentation of the first session was made by Prof. Dr. Margareta Teodorescu from the University of Applied Sciences in Koblenz on the topic of “The Effects of Blockchain on the Marketing Mix”.

The second session started with the presentation on "The Future of Supply Chain Management" by Tuğrul Günal, Chairman of the Supply Chain Association. Then, Mehmet Ali Taş from TGU made a presentation titled "Investigating the Effects of Digital Challenges and Strategies on Supply Chain Management in the Post-Pandemic Period". The session was concluded with TGU Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Dilek Zamantılı Nayır's presentation on video-on-demand platforms.

The Future of Finance and Investment, Shifting with the Pandemic

In the third session, Seyfullah Selimefendigil from TGU made a presentation on "Cryptocurrencies and Blockchain Technology". The session continued with the presentation of TAU Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Kersten Kellermann in which she drew attention to the future investments of Germany. The last presentation of the session titled "The Asset Allocation Preferences of Mutual Fund Managers in the Pre-pandemic and Post-pandemic Periods" was made by Dr. Tolga Tuzcuoğlu from Bosch Turkey and TAU Faculty Member Dr. Mehmet Hakan Özdemir together. 

The Role of the Pandemic in Home Life: Work, Family and Parenting

In the last session of the second day, the effects of the post-pandemic digital world on family life were discussed. First of all, Dr. Alev Özer Torgalöz presented her studies on the Role of Technostress Between Work-Family Conflict and Job Performance. Afterwards, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Çiğdem Vatansever from Tekirdağ Namık Kemal University made a presentation titled "Turning the Home into a Work Space for Women During the Covid-19 Pandemic: Expression of Work and Non-Work Life Balance in Social Media". The last presentation of the session and conference was made by TAU Faculty Member Dr. Elif Posos Devrani with her work on digital parenting during the Covid-19 Pandemic.
