Creative Media Lab Launched


The opening of the Creative Media Laboratory (YAMEDLAB), which was established within the Turkish-German University (TAU) with the support of the Istanbul Development Agency (ISTKA), was held on Monday, May 31, on ​Beykoz Campus of TAU. In addition to a number of guests at the opening, TAU Rector Prof. Dr. Halil Akkanat and Vice Rector Prof. Dr. B. Aykut Arıkan took part in the opening ceremony, as well.

The opening was held in the General Computers Laboratory Building, where YAMEDLAB is located. Project Coordinator Res. See. After the opening speech of the Project Coordinator Research Assistant Büşra Fadim Sarıkaya, Vice Rector Arıkan gave a short speech about the project. After the speeches, Prof. Dr. Cem Sefa Sütçü delivered a presentation on data science and algorithms. Emphasizing the importance of science branches and data science that have undergone changes with new media technologies, Sütçü underlined the need to support projects such as YAMEDLAB.

Creative Industries Should Be Supported

After the presentation of Sütçü, ISTKA Secretary General Erkam Tuzgen delivered his speech. Expressing that they are happy to support projects within the scope of creative industries with the theme of new media developed within universities, Tüzgen drew attention to the increase in the number of projects within the creative industries. Rector Akkanat, who was the last speaker of the opening ceremony, highlighted the new media and communication age in his speech.

6 Different Laboratories within YAMEDLAB

YAMEDLAB aims to be a pioneer in data science supported social science studies in Turkey with its six different laboratories. The laboratories will contribute to the interdisciplinary study of social sciences and mathematical sciences, and will enable people who are competent in related fields to work.
