Due to significant contributions to the development of TGU since its establishment, Prof. Dr. M. A.
Yekta Saraç, Prof. Dr. Rita Süssmuth and Prof. Dr. İzzet A. Furgaç were entitled with an honorary
doctorate degree by the University Senate.
Turkish-German University (TGU) Senate, for their substantial contributions to the development of
the University, granted Senior Advisor to the President (former the Chairman of the Council of Higher
Education) Prof. Dr. M. A. Yekta Saraç, President of TGU German Consortium (C-TDU) (Former
President of the German Bundestag) Prof. Dr. Rita Süssmuth and TGU's first University Coordinator
and Rector Advisor Prof. Dr. A. İzzet Furgaç with an honorary doctorate degree. Honorary doctorate
degrees were submitted to three preeminent academics at a ceremony held at TGU ​​Classrooms
Building Conference Hall on March 25.

Bestowal of Degrees

Following TGU Rector Prof. Dr. Halil Akkanat's opening speech, in which he emphasized the
meaning and importance of the day, the honorary doctorate conferment ceremony started. After video
presentations that include sections from the lives of three dear academicians, the senate decisions were
conveyed to Prof. Dr. Saraç by Prof. Dr. Ali Kemal Yıldız TGU the Dean of Faculty of Law, to Prof.
Dr. Süssmuth by Prof. Dr. İlhan İlkılıç the Dean of the Faculty of Culture and Social Sciences, and to
Prof. Dr. Furgaç by Prof. Dr. Ali Gökhan Yavuz the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering. Afterwards,
the honorary doctorate degrees were presented and the academicians got dressed in academic gowns.
The ceremony, in which the academic and administrative staff of the university were present, ended
after a memory photo was taken.
