The “International Humanitarian Aid Standards Workshop 1,” organized in collaboration with our University’s Social Responsibility Coordination Office and WEFA International Humanitarian Aid Organization, commenced on June 10, 2026, in the C Block Auditorium. The program, attended by our Rector Prof. Dr. Cemal Yıldız, our Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Aysel Uzuntaş and Prof. Dr. Hamide Özden Özkaya-Ferendeci, WEFA President Musab Aydın, representatives from public institutions, civil society organizations, academics, and experts in the field of humanitarian aid, included comprehensive evaluations aimed at improving international humanitarian aid standards.
The opening speeches of the workshop were delivered by our Rector Prof. Dr. Cemal Yıldız and WEFA President Musab Aydın. In his opening speech, our Rector Prof. Dr. Cemal Yıldız emphasized that humanitarian aid activities today cannot be sustained solely through goodwill-based approaches, and that the success of field operations must be addressed with a methodology that is permanent, measurable, and based on scientific principles. Our Rector stated that the outputs obtained after the workshop will be prepared in four languages within three months and presented to the world as a written and digital report, adding that this demonstrates the value that Turkish-German University places on global knowledge production.
WEFA President Musab Aydın, on the other hand, drew attention to the fact that we are going through a period where crises, natural disasters, and humanitarian tragedies are rapidly increasing and becoming more complex than ever before, and stressed the necessity of transforming humanitarian aid from a reflex into an institutional and intellectual discipline with global standards. Aydın stated that the discussions to be held at the workshop will contribute to the creation of standards that can be used on an international scale, and thanked Turkish-German University for its hospitality and cooperation.
As part of the program, Musab Aydın presented a gift to our Rector in commemoration of the day. The program continued with a session titled "Historical Development and Conceptual Framework of Humanitarian Aid Standards." The workshop continued with discussions among working groups formed under various headings.
