TGU Science Days Held with the Theme of "Sustainability"
Organized by the Science Communication Office of the Turkish-German University Communication Coordination Office, the “TGU Science Days” were held on June 1, 2026, in the D Block Conference Hall. This year, the event, themed “Sustainability,” brought together academics from various disciplines to discuss sustainability from different perspectives with high school students.
The program was attended by our Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Aysel Uzuntaş, our Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences Prof. Dr. Elif Nuroğlu, our Director of the School of Foreign Languages Prof. Dr. Leyla Coşan, our academics, and teachers and students from Paşabahçe Ahmet Ferit İnal Anatolian High School, Barbaros Hayrettin Paşa Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School, and Nun Schools.
In her opening speech, our Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Aysel Uzuntaş stated that sustainability is a multifaceted concept that should be addressed not only from an environmental perspective but also from economic, social, and cultural dimensions.
As part of the event, Dr. Eylül Tuğçe Alnıaçık Özyer, Assistant Professor from Faculty of Culture and Social Sciences, first gave a presentation titled “The Dictionary of the Future: What Does Sustainability Mean? What Doesn’t?”. Following this, Dr. Osman Sinan Süslü, Assistant Professor from Faculty of Science, met with participants with his presentation on “Water, Food and Energy Production for a Sustainable Planet”.
The program continued with our Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Prof. Dr. Elif Nuroğlu, giving a presentation titled “Innovative and Sustainable Solutions in Agriculture and Agricultural Waste”, where she evaluated sustainable agricultural practices and circular economy approaches. Research Assistant Mustafa Uçar from Faculty of Law addressed the legal dimensions of the sustainability concept in his presentation titled “Sustainability in Law”.
Later in the event, Dr. Damla Durak Uşar, Assistant Professor from Faculty of Engineering, evaluated the impact of sustainability practices on businesses in her presentation titled "Sustainability Practices and Financial Performance in Manufacturing Companies." Our Director of the School of Foreign Languages, Prof. Dr. Leyla Coşan, addressed the concept of sustainability from a literary perspective in her presentation titled "Sustainability Elements in Marlen Haushofer's Novel 'The Wall'."
TGU Science Days, which brought together different disciplines under the common denominator of sustainability, concluded with great interest from the participants.
