“Shifting Global Order: Türkiye, the EU and the World” Conference was Held at Our University
The 9th High Level Experts Conference titled “Shifting Global Order: Türkiye, EU and the World” hosted by our university on May 29–30, 2025, brought together academics, decision-makers and diplomats specialized in the field of international relations.
The opening speeches of the conference, attended by our General Coordinator Prof. Dr. Ferit Küçükay, Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Aysel Uzuntaş, Prof. Dr. Hamide Özden Özkaya Ferendeci and Head of the Department of Political Science and International Relations Prof. Dr. Enes Bayraklı, were made by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye Dr. Nuh Yılmaz and the German Ambassador to Türkiye Sibylle Katharina Sorg. Important assessments were shared at the opening on the changing balance of power in the global order, Türkiye-EU relations and new international threats.
Four separate panel sessions were held as part of the conference. The first panel addressed the rising far-right movements in Europe with examples from Germany, Türkiye and Austria. The second panel assessed the current relations between the European Union and Türkiye, current dynamics and future perspectives. The third panel discussed the strategic autonomy approach of Turkish foreign policy. The final panel examined new global security threats and regional developments extending to Syria, Ukraine and beyond.
During the sessions, participants had the opportunity to evaluate current global developments from an interdisciplinary perspective. The event, coordinated by our university's Department of Political Science and International Relations, was brought to life in collaboration with DAAD and the University of Cologne.
