Fire and Building Evacuation Drill Conducted at Our University
A fire and building evacuation drill was conducted at our university to prepare our students, academic and administrative staff for disasters and emergencies such as fire and earthquakes, and to raise awareness about the correct procedures in such situations. The drill, conducted simultaneously in all buildings across the campus at 09:30 on December 16, 2025, was an important exercise in increasing emergency awareness.
The drill began with the sound of an alarm. Personnel and students who were not specifically assigned to the building evacuated by following the emergency exit signs in the corridors. They were then directed to designated Emergency Assembly Areas throughout the campus. Upon reaching the assembly areas, participants waited until further notice, acting according to the instructions given to them.
Following the drill, our Rector Prof. Dr. Cemal Yıldız, our General Coordinator Prof. Dr. Ferit Küçükay, and our Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Hamide Özden Özkaya-Ferendeci, together with our Secretary General Özgür Ali Şirin and our department heads, reviewed the fire preparedness measures at the Crisis Management Centre and evaluated the success of the drill.
Throughout the drill, it was observed that participants acted in accordance with evacuation rules and followed instructions. These types of drills, regularly conducted at our university, aim to increase the level of institutional preparedness for disasters and emergencies and to strengthen the safe campus environment.
