13.10.2025

The Leverage of IT for Engineering and Science – Sensors and Actuators Workshop 2025 (LITES 2025), hosted by our university's Faculties of Engineering and Science, took place at Turkish- German University on October 9–10, 2025.

At the opening ceremony, our General Coordinator Prof. Dr. Ferit Küçükay, Prof. Dr. Jörg Krüger from the Technical University of Berlin, Prof. Dr. Florian Schweigert from the University of Potsdam, and our Vice Rector and Dean of the Faculty of Science Prof. Dr. Yunus Ziya Arslan addressed the participants. Our General Coordinator Prof. Dr. Ferit Küçükay stated in his speech that such events at Turkish-German university, which currently offers 37 programs with 5,000 students, are crucial for strengthening the university's research networks, innovation, and knowledge sharing. He expressed his hope that the event, which will feature presentations from nine different countries, including Chile and the United States, will be a successful one.

Following the opening remarks, Professor Dr. Oussama Khatib from Stanford University presented "Robotics Avatars: Deep Sea, Health Care, and the Workplace," sharing current developments in underwater robotics and his predictions for the future of human-robot interaction.

During the two-day workshop, various sessions were held on robotic systems, sensor technologies, human-robot interaction, cognitive robotics, actuator technologies, and industrial applications. The workshop featured invited talks from researchers from Stanford University, ETH Zurich, Vienna Technical University, Koç University, Sabancı University, Delft Technical University, Imperial College London, the University of Chile, Furtwangen University, Braunschweig Technical University, Berlin Technical University, Dresden Technical University, and the Jožef Stefan Institute.

On the second day of the event, in an "Industry Session," attended by industry representatives, participants from Yaskawa, Festo, and Siemens presented their latest sensor and actuator systems. The workshop concluded with a "Roundtable Meeting" session exploring collaboration opportunities between international universities and industrial organizations, followed by closing remarks.

LITES 2025 brought together scientists, engineers, and industry professionals, contributing significantly to the sharing of knowledge and experience in the areas of digitalization in engineering, sensor technologies, and robotic systems.
