November 10th Atatürk Commemoration Programme, the opening of the newly-built TGU Ceremony Area and the Bust of Atatürk were held on our campus. Our Rector Prof. Dr. Cemal Yıldız, General Coordinator Prof. Dr. Ferit Küçükay, the Vice-Rectors Prof. Dr. Aysel Uzuntaş and Prof. Dr. Hamide Özden Özkaya Ferendeci, and Prof. Dr. Ali Gökhan Yavuz, faculty deans of our university, members and students participated in this programme. In his opening speech, our Rector Prof. Dr. Cemal Yıldız noted, “Today, we are experiencing the great excitement, honour and happiness of opening the bust of Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk at our University to keep alive the cherished memory of our Ancestor, on the 85th anniversary of his passing away and on the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Turkey, of which he was the founder. We salute and commemorate our Ancestor with respect, gratitude and mercy.” Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk emphasizes the importance which he attaches to education and science with the words “The Republic requires protectors who are strong in thought, science, science and body and have high character” and tells teachers that “The Republic demands from your generations with free thought, free conscience and free wisdom” and he emphasizes the understanding of education and reveals its basic principles. “I would like to point out that this vision of Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk is of great importance to us and that our University will be among the leading institutions with successful studies which will be conducted in the fields of education and science with this motto, and I thank all of you for your contributions.” Following Atatürk bust ribbon cutting and the wreath-laying ceremony of our Rector Cemal Yıldız and Turkish-German University Kindergarten students, the programme continued with a moment of silence and the National Anthem at 09.05 a.m. In his commemoration speech, our Rector said, “There is no need for mourning for the death of great characters, there is a need for devotion to their ideas.” We remember our Ancestor with mercy, gratitude and longing on the 85th anniversary of Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's passing into eternity. Our ancestor said, “Children are the assurance of our future and our joy of life. It is our duty as a human being to raise today's children as tomorrow's adults.” and “A clean generation is growing in the hearts of the nation. I will leave this work (the State of the Republic of Turkey) to him and I will not look back.” Based on his words, we express with great pride and belief that today, with the children growing up in the kindergarten, the students of our University and all the employees, we protect this great work, ideas and cherished memory of our Ancestor on the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Turkey. We are very honoured and happy to be able to contribute to raising the new generation, which is the assurance of our future, in the best possible way; with the education we provide in our kindergarten, the education we offer at international standards in Science, Engineering, Social Sciences and many other fields at our University, and the national and international awareness gained. We evaluate the current situation and state of our world within the framework of Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’s principle of “peace at home, peace in the world” and emphasize the importance of peace at home and in the world. With these feelings and thoughts, he said, “If I die, I am sure that our noble nation will never leave the path we walk together; I am at peace with this!” We commemorate Atatürk, who said, together with children and young people, with respect, gratitude and gratitude on the 85th anniversary of his passing. He concluded his speech by saying “May his soul rest in peace.”
